Based upon lessons 1.05-1.07, there were several examples of the tone and societal attitudes during Anne Bradstreet's and Jonathan Edwards' lifetimes. Bradstreet came from an era where people were devout Puritans; even though in the era Edwards came from, he was a preacher who spoke about consequences when it came to God and was the leader of the Great Awakening. Jonathan preached harsh messages to let people know where they were going; Heaven if you were a good servant, and Hell if you were a bad servant to God.

Bradstreet's Poetry style was a different a bit from Edwards's style of poetry; Bradstreet's poetry were lyrical and had rhythm/beat and almost her poems mostly were always evoke God, her faith, and/or her desire for eternal life. Bradstreet is in belief that in simpler words that God will bless you as long as your obedient in his word and bible standards. If people choose to disobey in Gods word, then God can take many of your wonderful blessings away and have their days cut short. For example, she wrote one of her famous poems called "Upon the Burning of Our House" and on Page 17 in the last line of her poem when it said: "My hope and treasure lie above" that she means that her hope and what she is meant to discover waits for her in heaven. Bradstreet was a very strong and empowering woman who had a unique way of expressing her feelings about how things were in society that she did not support at the time; Meanwhile, Jonathan Edwards's writing style was more like Puritan plain style whatever he writes in his sermons. For example, he has written one of his most famous sermons called "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" and his sermon was to show sinners that the things they do are wrong and they needed to go back to God. Edwards preaches the word in a harsh format that would make people come to Christ because Jonathan scares them into Religion; He also felt that the society, including many other members of the congregation, were more sinful now than they ever for but even though it was a bit harsh in what he said to the people thinking bad things will happen if they didn't worship with God but it was for a good cause and encouraging because he believed everybody should go to heaven. The similarities between Anne Bradstreet and Jonathan Edwards were their beliefs in Christ, and how to be obedient and put their faith in him.
