The hat ^ means 'power of'
So -9c^2 means -9c
2 = -9*c*c
On computer sites * is used for multiply so that it doesn't get confused with x which is a letter commonly used in algebra.
To put 3
2 onto this page i would press
3 and then the 'sup' button that is located above the smilies. The curser will go where you need to put the 2. Then move the curser to the end and keep going.
If you use this notation it is much easier to read and leads to less confusion.
