$$\\\frac{x}{2.5}=\frac{24}{1/8}\\\\ \frac{x}{2.5}=24*8\\\\ x=24*8*2.5\\\\ x=480miles$$

2.5 = 2 1/2

1/2 = 4/8

2 = 16/8

(16+4)/8 = 20/8

20/8 = 24 miles per 1/8 th of a mile

20*24 = 480
