So it appears that "Dr. Peterson" - if I read Alan's referenced article correctly - tends to side with Melody's "real world" interpretation of "difference" as being poisitve. But, he also admits that some ambiguity exists - that a "textbook" convention of a negative answer is acceptable, as well. Which is exactly what I was trying to imply......that the way we might interpret the left side of the equation may influence our "answer." Thus, as I stated, NDs solution is "an" answer - but not neccessarily the answer anymore than -12/11 is the answer.....

Melody is correct...the "antilog" might be thought of in terms of being the "inverse" of a "log."

For instance

log 2.2387211385683396 = .35

So, in essence the "antilog" is an exponential function that raises 10 to the power of .35

Think of it this way.....the original log function takes "A" and outputs "B"

The inverse exponential function takes "B" and outputs "A"

Melody is correct in suggesting that I might should have reversed the signs......however, I couldn't say at that point whether x was negative or not.......all I could say originally is that x ≠ 0....it might have been that x only took on positive values...!!!! Besides, in these types of problems, I like to generally ignore the inequality signs and set up an equality that will give me some intervals to work with - which is what I did. By picking some test points in these intervals, we can determine which values make our original inequality true, and I don't have to necessarily worry about the direction of the inequality sign throughout the problem. This may not be the fastest way to solve such things, but it's the method I learned......

We aren't including 0 !!!   That's what the parentheses indicates....if we were including it, we would have had a bracket....the interval is everything from -1 up to, but not including, 0 .......

Depends upon how many hours you work per week...

Take 2500 and divide by the hours you work per week, and that will give you your answer...

325000*(0.825)⁵     ...... is one way of doing it........
