Pi is an irrational number......thus it never terminates.........

Look at it this way.....if I gave you "2 less than 5"...isn't that just 5 - 2??

Then, "twice x "  is just 2x

And three less than "twice x" is just....... 2x - 3

Does that make sense??

We don't have to look very far for the first 3 digit number that "works"....doesn't 101 fit the bill??

It's not divisable by any even number nor by 3 or 5, either....

There are many numbers that "work'   (103 would be the next one.)

Thanks, Melody.....now that I look at it, I think this is probably what the questioner meant, too. However, we both provided him/her with answers to two different things....that's unusual...!!!

Assuming that we have some "one-to-one function" of x = f(x) = "y"

(Note that we might have to "restrict" the domain of the original function in order to produce an "inverse.")

1st, isolate x on one side of the equation

2nd, "switch" (exchange) x and y

3rd, for "y," write f^-1(x)  ...the " f^-1(x)" indicates the inverse function....

That's it, in a nutshell !!

2a+4-7a+a

So we have

2a + 4 - 6a =

-4a + 4

17 = 9 - 2y

Subtract 9 from both sides

8 = -2y    divide both sides by -2

-4 = y

3(x-2)=18x+4       simplifying the left side, we have

3x - 6  = 18x + 4   subtract 3x from both sides......subtract 4 from both sides

-10 = 15x              divide both sides by 12

-10/15  = -2/3 = x

To find the percent that 15 is of 200.....just use the calculator...hit the "2nd" button and then key in 15/200. Then hit the "%" key.....it will give you answer in terms of a percent.....

59/7 = 8+(3/7)  cents.....= 8 cents (rounded).......and we'd only want to play with a "rounded" marble....!!!
