not a math person:
what is the third significant number of 21.3628300444

the first significant figure is 2
the second significant figure is 1
the third significant figure is 3

If you wanted to round it of to 3 significant figures, you would use the 4th one for rounding.
so if the 4th one is 5 or bigger, the 3 rd on goes up.
So
correct to 3 significant figures this is 21.4

You can only use the numbers given, you can't use the same number twice but you don't have to use all of the numbers.
The magic number is the total.
If you get the answer try to describe how you worked it out. They are much easier when you start getting some techniques.

From now on, scores will only be given if you solve the most recent puzzle, only because it is just too hard for me to keep track otherwise.

Yes okay Random. That was a fair answer. Not exactly what I had in mind but fair none the less.

The main thing that I wanted you to get out of those questions was that if you have money in a specific compounding account, it doesn't matter how long you leave your money there, the interest rate per compounding period ' r ' will stay the same.

I want you to copy this question and put the answers after each of my questions. So that the answers stay with the question.

John has some in an account
The interest rate is 4.32% per annum
Interest is compounded monthly.
a) ( think about how many 'nets' of interest there are in a year.) How many times each year is the interest compouned ?
b) What is the monthly rate of interest? This is the interest per compounding period, don't forget to put r= ?

If John leaves his money in the account for just 1 month then he has left it there for just 1 compounding period. so n=1
what will n be if [Note: Put n = every time ]
c) john leaves the money there for 2 months Ans: n=?
d) for 3 months Ans:
e) for 4 months Ans:
f) for 8 months Ans:
g) for 1 year Ans:
h) for 18 months Ans:
g) for 3 years Ans:

You need to describe your triangle better before anybody can answer this question.
You have angleX, angleY and angleZ X must be the right angle because x is the hypotenuse (x is the same as YZ)
But we don't know which side is 21m or which angle is 52 degrees.
Also, you haven't actually told us what you need to find
If you fix it up you can post again.

quadratic-linear system. How do I solve this without inputting a radical or a decimal. Very confused.

just put
x ²+4x+3 = 2x+6
then take all the terms to one side and put equal to 0
then solve as a quadratic equation.
It is an easy one.
If you can't do it, do what you can and then post again.

First you must realise this,

10 ^-6 = 10 ^-1 x 10 ^-5
so

2.53x 10 ^-5 + 4.1 x 10 ^-6

= 2.53 x 10 ^-5 + 4.1 x 10 ^-1 x 10 ^-5

= 2.53 x 10 ^-5 + 0.41 x 10 ^-5

= (2.53 + 0.41) x 10 ^-5

= 2.94 x 10 ^-5

Or, you could just do it on a calculator

Are you sure that this is not meant to be
simplify (64/81)^( -3/2)

This would be a much more likely question, is the answer 729/512 = 1 and 217/512 = 1.4238 (5 sig figures)
