I got a different answer from you Walt. (plus, it is easier to read if you use the superscript button (sup) when you do indice questions )

14x(4xy^14)(-4x^-10y7)

= 14 * 4 * -4 * x * x * x ^-10 * y ¹⁴ * y ⁷

= -224 x ^-8 y ²¹

= -224 y ²¹ / x ⁸

I haven't looked at your answer properly, maybe mine is the one that is wrong.

Hi Masoud and Special,

That was a good lesson that you just gave Masoud and it is stuff he needs to know but entering an angle into the calc can be much easier than that.

Make sure your calc is in degrees mode - there will be a little D at the toop of the screen.

now just press
20, degrees button, 30, degrees button (if you want to enter 25 seconds, then you press 25 degrees button again)

approximate any solutions to two decimal places.

I read your question wrong. I thought you had to estimate all of them and i thought that was a bit over the top.
Anyway you will need to use newton's method of approximating roots.
Show me what you can do and we'll take it from there (I haven't actually tried to do it yet)
I did a graph for you so you will at least know what you are trying to find.

You are not hogging the forum. You are just using it well. Besides, there seems to be lots of people answering today which is really great. (and everyone needs questions to answer)
now for your question.
10 ^a = 500

10 ^a = 5 x 100

10 ^a = 5 x 10 ²

10 ^a / 10 ² = 5

10 ^(a-2) = 5

log 10 ^(a-2) =log 5

log 5 = log 10 ^(a-2)

log 5 = (a-2) log 10

log 5 = (a-2) x 1 (assuming that the base is 10)

log 5 = a-2

If there is anything you don't understand, just ask. (as many times as you want)

Why is this causing you a problem John?

You just do what is in the inside brackets first and work out from there.
When there is nothing between a number and a bracket, there is really an invisable multiply sign that you will need to put in. Is that what your problems was?
so the first line is
= 8 - 3 x [-2 x -3 - 4 x 2]

now, multiply is more important than subtract. I mean, you multiply before you subtract.
And, when you multiply pos and neg numbers just remember that if the signs are the same, the answer is postitive and if the signs are different the answer is negative.
So the next line will be
=8 - 3 x [6-8]

You see if you can finish it.

What is the perimeter of an isoscolese trapezoid called T R A P if P T is 27.5m and T R is 58.8m and the length of the bisector of segment R A and segment T P is 47.6?

I had to make assumptions about which sides you were referring to but my diagram illustrates my assumptions. It might be different from what you intended.

This is what I think.

PA / 47.6 = 47.6 / 58.8

PA = 47.6 ² / 58.8

PA = 38.53 repeater = approx 38.53m

Therefore the perimeter is 58.7m + 27.5m + 38.53m + 27.5m

If you need to justify any of this it will require more work.
