I just worked out how to make an empty box of various horizonal size easily in LaTex.
This is not a recommended method, but other methods that I have tried here have not worked.

you can't do anymore than this BUT you should realize that you can't find the sqrt of a negative number therefore

-3x-2 >= 0
-3x>=2
x<=-2/3

x has to be less than or equal to -2/3, otherwise there is no solution (in the real number system)

y = 1/2 * x + 4

now the idea is to get the x on one side by itself. So you need to keep thinking, what can I get rid of and how do I do that.

What is the opposite of adding 4 ? Well taking it away of course. But you have to do it to both sides.

y-4 = 1/2 * x +4-4

y-4 = 1/2 * x

Now what is the opposite of halving something. How about timesing it by 2.

2(y-4) = 2 * 1/2 * x Don't forget the brackets

x=2(y-4)

anyway, it is just

y= (8+3/2)x - 6
y= 9.5x - 6
or
y=19x/2 - 6
or
y = (19x-12)/2

is that a minus sign or a dash? I'll assume it is a dash, if it is a minus sign, it makes no difference to the rest of the answer anyway.

If you want the exact vaue it is just 1.5sqrt5

If you want an approximation from your calculator, it is
sqrt 5 x 1.5 =
which is the same as
1.5 x sqrt5 =
