Very interesting question. No high level maths required.
This question was posted a couple of days ago.

I think it is really interesting. It looks much more difficult than it really needs to be.

Some guidelines for question askers.
Please note:
1) Ask only one question per post.
2) When asking a question talk about what you have tried for yourself. Then people will take you more seriously and will be more able and willing to help.
3) If you get an answer

1) expand
2) rearrange the pairs, put the ones with squares first
3) the first 2 factorise as a difference of two squares,
4) the second two factorise so that one of the factors is the same as one of the part 3 factors
5) take out the common factor so that it is now factoised properly.
6)since the answer is 0, one of the factors must be 0
This is enough hints for now, your turn
If this is not enough information ask for more but have a go yourself first.

that's a tricky questions!
4/9 are apples
so 5/9 are not apples
1/7 of the the not apple fruit are oranges so
1/7 * 5/9 are oranges
5/63 are oranges
5/63 of the total fruit is 180
5/63 * T = 180
T = 180 * 63 / 5
Total number of fruit is ?? You finish it and then check your answer by seeing if each part of the question is true. I haven't checked. I might have made a mistake.

Do you mean
5y/6 + (y-6)/5 = y + 1/8 ?
If that is what you mean you just multiply both sides by the lowest common denominator which is 6*5*8/2 = 120
You get
100y + 24(y-6) = 120y + 15
now, expand the brackets
collect like terms on the left side
subtract 120y from both sides
etc
finish it and see if montanajace is right!

no, you are not supposed to, that is what I said.
Were you hoping to get a response from admin, I'm sorry I butted in if you were.
If you want an answer from admin it might be better if you start a new thread and adress it to admin in the title line. imo

Might depend on your calculator
say you want 6*10^12
6 exp 12 =
0r, like 'essexdal' said
6 10
x
12 =
or
6*10^12 but this is the worst way!

I am sorry but I believe this is incorrect.
root2 / 2 is regarded as the more simple form.

Find the slope of (m) of AB for the following points: A (5,3), B (-2,1)
Sammy's formula is correct but he has substituted in the wrong values,
gradent(slope) = y(#2)-y(#1) / x(#2)-x(#1)
x
1
=5, y
1
=3,
x
2
=-2 y
2
=1
gradient = [y
2
- y
1
] / [x
2
- x
1
]
gradient = (1-3) / (-2-5) = -2 / -7 = 2/7

I have never owned or used a calculator that does any of those things.
The calculator on this site does have those functions but I haven't tried to use them.
If you use lots of decimal places in your working and only round at the very end you should not get many rounding discrepancies.
