I just worked out how to make an empty box of various horizonal size easily in LaTex.
This is not a recommended method, but other methods that I have tried here have not worked.
This coding is really simple. Just put letters inside

Very interesting question. No high level maths required.
This question was posted a couple of days ago.

I think it is really interesting. It looks much more difficult than it really needs to be.

Some guidelines for question askers.
Please note:
1) Ask only one question per post.
2) When asking a question talk about what you have tried for yourself. Then people will take you more seriously and will be more able and willing to help.
3) If you get an answer

I can't answer this, if I could, I would.
If you do not get an answer soon you may consider posting your question in the forum above.
I think you will be more likely to get an answer there.
There is a section there specifically for physics and chemistry questions.

It's not your question dedwe, so why does it help you?
sqrt257 to the 3rd power = (257^1/2) ^(1/3) = 257 ^ (1/6) = approx 2.52147996

You just graph each one separately and the answer is where they cross.
These 2 are both lines so if the gradients are the same they will be parallel and never cross
If one equation is a multiple of the other
eg 3x-2y=7 and 6x-4y=14 then they are the same line and there will be an infinite number of solutions.
Otherwise there will be 1 solution where they cross.

a 60 kg student is standing on a bathroom scale in the elevator. Of course the scale measures weight in newtons.
I am not sure about this topic so I posted your question on mymathforum.com
http://www.mymathforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=43715&p=183412#p183412
and this was the answer I was given. It makes sense to me.
When he is not in an elevator his weight will be 60g newtons
calculate the reading of the scale if, the elevator is moving at a constant speed, Still 60g newtons
the elevator is accelerating 4m/s/\2 up, 60(g+4) newtons
4m/s/\2 down 60(g-4) newtons
and finally the cord is cut and in free fall 60(g-g) = 0

You have to make the denominators (bottoms) the same first. Then you just subtract the tops and leave the bottom alone.
example
1/2 - 1/4 = 2/4 - 1/4 = (2-1)/4 = 1/4

Okay,
I've had a think a and a chat to another and I can account for at least some of the error in my second method solution.
First I should have had the external height as 17.00001m
and
secondly the external radius will be bigger than 100.00001m because the cone comes down at an angle. That is, the angle between the base and the side of the cone is not 90 degrees so this gives a trapezoidal shape at the end of the cloth. It is not the end of a rectangle.
These 2 factors together may be enough to account for the difference in volume.
The first answer is definitely the best one.
Now I think I am happy

is 1.6 more or less than 0.25
One of them is more than 1 and the other is less than 1. Can you guess which is which?
Another hint:
If you have $4.75 that is 4.75 dollars.
How many whole dollars do you have.
Another hint:
which is more
$1.60 or $0.25
