I am going to try something different and ask you some questions!

How do you solve this equation?    Remember, you need to get  the X off the bottom and you need to do the same thing to both sides to keep it 'balanced'

1)      $$5=\frac{6}{X}$$     

Think about it and if you don't know - say so! 

Umm no - but my c in the middle of r1 and r2 should have  been a y.  I still had x=c.

Just my notation was horrible inadequate and not correct.

I must get more familiar with number and set notation too!

My education is sorely lacking

I am eager to see what rosala thinks.  She seems to have a bit of problem with understanding algebra.

Rosala, I think I just noticed you on the forum,  algebra is very important so, each time you are given an algebraic solution try your best to understand.  Maybe at some point the meaning will just jump out at you!

Maths really does work that way.   Understanding often happens in steps.

$$\frac{1}{2}+\frac{3}{8}=\frac{4}{8}+\frac{3}{8}=\frac{7}{8}$$   

So the 9 deer must be   $$1-\frac{7}{8}=\frac{1}{8}$$      of the total 

If 1/8 of the herd is 9 then ALL of the herd must be 9*8= 72 deer.

Does that make sense?
