To subtract a negative number is like taking away cold air - the  room gets warmer.

so    - - = +

cos 160 = -cos(180-160) = -cos20

It doesn't have to be used with a variable - it will be true anyway

6(3+5)=6*(3+5)=6*3+6*5=18+30=48
